A Real-World Combative System for Real People

The world can be unpredictable. Most people will never go looking for trouble — but trouble has a habit of finding good people.
Down The Range Combatives was created for exactly that moment.

A practical, honest, street-relevant system built not for trophies, belts, or grading… but for urban survival, personal protection, and getting home alive.

This is not a martial art.
This is not a sport.
This is a toolbox — simple, direct skills for when avoidance fails, de-escalation breaks down, and you have no option left but to protect yourself or someone you love.

As we say:
“The street doesn’t care who you are. Skill is the only equaliser.”

Who we are, Experience and empathy that matters!

Good people. Normal people. People who deserve to feel safe.

Core Combatives, for when you cannot walk away...

A direct, gross-motor skillset built for adrenaline, fear, and chaos:

  • Striking that works under pressure
  • Clinch survival & takedown control
  • Ground escapes & reversals
  • Targeting for control vs survival
  • Breaking structure & balance
  • Defending the vulnerable person with you
  • Dealing with grabs, holds, pins & chokes

Simple. Brutal. Effective.

Improvised Weaponry

“If it’s in your hand, it’s a tool. If it’s on the floor, it’s an opportunity.”
We cover principles for:

  • Everyday carry items
  • Bags, pens, phones, belts
  • Environmental use (walls, corners, doorways)
  • Creating space to escape

UK Law & Self Defence the real do's & do nots!

We demystify what you can and cannot legally do.

UK Law & Self Defence the real do's & do nots!

We demystify what you can and cannot legally do.

Covered topics include:

  • Reasonable Force
  • Pre-emptive striking (yes, it is legal — if justified)
  • Disproportionate vs grossly disproportionate force
  • Protecting others
  • Householder law myths
  • When self-defence becomes excessive
  • How to articulate your actions after an incident

We keep it clear, honest, and based on real case law.

Self-defence isn’t violence It’s the refusal to be a victim.

Knife crime. County lines spillover. Unprovoked assaults.

Self-defence isn’t violence It’s the refusal to be a victim.

Knife crime. County lines spillover. Unprovoked assaults.
Mental health related incidents.
Random street violence.
And the growing trend of mobile phone robbery assaults.

We’re not here to scare you.
We’re here to prepare you.

Because pretending the world is safe does not make it safe.
But learning how to move, think, react and recover?
That changes everything.

Fitness, safety and medical screening

Down The Range Combatives is open to anyone, but participants must:

  • Complete a basic medical disclaimer
  • Disclose injuries or mobility limitations
  • Work within controlled intensity
  • Respect the controlled, safety-first environment

A reasonable level of fitness is beneficial — but you don’t need to be an athlete.
Just willing.

Humility, humor and humanity!

We don’t do macho nonsense.
No chest beating.
No “tough guy” culture.

You will sweat.
You will learn.
You will laugh.
You will get humbled.
And you will leave every session more capable than you arrived.

A favourite quote in our team:

“In a world where you could choose to be anything… choose to be prepared.”

And another:

“Courage is not the absence of fear. It’s moving anyway — especially when someone needs you.”

Why we teach this

Why we teach this

Why we teach this

Because people deserve safety.
Because violence doesn’t care who you are.
Because the world can be unfair —
and the only antidote is skill, awareness, and mindset.

Down The Range Combatives exists for one reason:

To empower good people in a world that isn’t always good.
To teach survival without ego.
To protect those who cannot protect themselves.
To dare — truly — to really care.
